The UNT Health Science Center created a novel Coordinated Plan to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in biomedical education and research. The plan includes funded and non-funded programs designed to provide training in academic skills and in focused biomedical research for underrepresented college students. Our scholars participate in a 10-week mentor-guided program where they are engaged in cutting edge research and study skill workshops. To celebrate the completion of their program, summer scholars representing the SMART, STARS and HBCU Summer Research Internship Program participate in a poster competition and have a future opportunity to present their research at a National Undergraduate Conference (ABCRMS and SACNAS). This year, the Scholars Poster Presentation will be held on July 25, 2013, and will include a Role Model Presentation and Awards Luncheon.
